Top Ten Goals Of The Season So Far

Can Everton land a knock-out blow in this top ten?

As we near the half way mark of the season heading into a crucial Christmas for clubs across the British league systems, Edward Bretherton takes a look at the ten best goals so far from top flight's across Britain.

So far in the Premier League, we've seen United hit Blackburn for seven, Chelsea score six against West Brom and Wigan, and Blackpool beat Liverpool at Anfield, but these goals should bring back some good memories from the last 5 months.

Did your favourite make the list?

Here are a few teasers which didn't quite make it, to wet the appetite.

TOM HUDDLESTONE v Fulham

HATEM BEN ARFA v Everton

RICARDO FULLER v Birmingham City

That's enough of that and we'll start, in reverse order, with number ten.

That lies with Manchester City winger, David Silva, for this winner at the seaside.

10. DAVID SILVA v Blackpool

Number nine was an absolute cracker as Arsenal headed to Stamford Bridge, looking to break their record of four straight losses to the Champions.

9. ALEX v Arsenal

Next is another goal which took me by surprise when I watched it live. It makes eighth place not just because it is a superb solo effort, but because it was right-back Nedum Onuoha's first goal for the North East outfit.

8. NEDUM ONUOHA v Chelsea

Number seven sees our first and only trip north of the border to Scotland, where midfielder Paddy McCourt seems to be enhancing his reputation for scoring spectacular goals. This is fantastic, but poor defending costs it a higher place.

7. PADDY McCOURT v St Mirren.

It would be harsh to leave Dimitar Berbatov out of the list given his 5 goals against Blackburn and he makes sixth position with his hat-trick goal. This is a sublime display on how to start and finish an attack by the Bulgarian, who hadn't scored in 7 before the game.

6. DIMITAR BERBATOV v Blackburn Rovers

Fifth place goes to Swedish striker Johan Elmander for this effort against Wolves. Previous to this season, Elmander had his critics but, if he continues to show this kind of quality, he will have blown them away very soon.

5. JOHAN ELMANDER v Wolves

Number four sees this attempt from Javier Hernandez against Stoke. It might have deserved a higher place but, from here on, the quality is actually unbelievable. Great header, great goal. Well deserved place on the list.

4. JAVIER HERNANDEZ v Stoke City

Third place goes to Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri, who has been a revelation this season despite Cesc Fabregas' absence form the side through injury. This is not football, this is ballet and he's danced his way to third place.

3. SAMIR NASRI v FULHAM

Second place stays in North London with Spurs player Gareth Bale for this superb volley, again at the Britannia. Stoke have been on the wrong side of this list, but there's no denying that this is, technically, one of the best Premier League goals this season.

2. GARETH BALE v STOKE CITY

And then we reach number one. Well, the goal doesn't come from England, but from Ireland, and Glentoran FC starlet Matty Burrows for this incredible strike.

You might not realise first time how good it is, but watch the replay and you will realise why his has been chosen as the best goal so far this season in Britain.

1. MATTY BURROWS V Portadown
